Twins

The Minnesota Twins are looking for back to back to back to back AL Central titles. It looks to be an exciting season in The Land of 10,000 Lakes. The return of Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones will be keys to success this season. The team is managed by Ron Gardenhire and has been located in Minneapolis since 1961. They have made the playoffs 6 times and last won the World Series in 1991. Since 1982, the team has been playing its games in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, which has a capacity of 55,883.

Ron Gardenhire\'s Minnesota Twins have had something of a stranglehold on the American League Central Championship the past two seasons, unwilling to relenquish it to anyone. This season looks to be the third consecutive trip to the playoffs for the Twins, but they certainly hope that this time will be different then the past few trips which have had the team come back to Minneapolis with disappointment. Hoping to strike up the image of the last team to win the World Championship for Minnesota, Kirby Puckett\'s 1991 squad, the team this year has been built on solid play and good pitching.

The team\'s pitching is its strength, and Johan Santana has been the ace this season, second in the AL in ERA while tied for third in wins with 15, Santana has been dominating, only letting hitters bat a scant .201 off of him this season. Brad Radke is a familiar face with the Twins, and he has turned in a solid season thus far at 9-7 with an ERA under 4.00. He will lead the team to the playoffs once more, and bank on his October experience to garner a few victories.

Hitting is certainly not spectacular in Minnesota. Only two players in the lineup have hit more than twenty homeruns, and just one bats for over .300. The constant change in the lineup from season to season keeps the offense as commonly unknown players throughout the league. Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones are the offensive leaders, and they will have to step up for the team to succeed.

The team is just a decade removed from the best seasons in franchise history. While the team has seen success in the AL Central recently, they have struggled in the playoffs and have to rely on quality play from Hunter, Jones, Radke, Santana, and the rest of their roster to hope that the team can provide a spark to help their solid play turn into greatness.

For the AL Central champs to have success in this postseason, they must stick to their season-long strategy of playing together as a team. Without any large bats in the lineup, the Twins have won with consistent output, offensively and defensively, from stars such as Torii Hunter, Jacque Jones and Lew Ford. A pitching staff led by Johan Santana has also proved to be a valuable asset to Minnesota. If the Twins can finally find a formula to win in the playoffs, this is a team that can go far.
