Yankees

The longest Yankee tradition is winning. This year is no different in the Bronx. This season could be one of their best in a long time, although every year is one of promise for the royalty of baseball. A-Rod is cranking out the homers and Matsui is crushing the ball at the plate as well. With the additions of Gary Sheffield, Kenny Lofton, and Kevin Brown, the Yankees are all the tools for the greatness. The rest of the superstars on the New York Yankees are healthy and if they can stay so, the Bombers are obviously a World Series favorite. Don’t miss your chance to see this team earn their pinstripes. The team is managed by Joe Torre and has been located in New York since 1913. They have made the playoffs 42 times and last won the World Series in 2000. Since 1923, the team has been playing its games in Yankee Stadium, which has a capacity of 57,545.

With the addition of Alex Rodriguez in the preseason, the New York Yankees started out the 2004 Major League Baseball season as the topic of most conversations. As the enter August, they remain the center of the baseball world as the team with the best record in the American League, Nine games over the second-place Boston Red Sox for the American League East crown. After a shaky start, A-Rod is showing himself to be a Bronx bomber in the truest of forms. His 28 homeruns coming into August tied for the American League lead. Pitching is the big concern in New York, and taking that into consideration they went out of their way to pull off a huge trade literally seconds before the trade deadline passed. They sent right-hander Jose Contreras to the Chicago White Sox for 20-game winner Esteban Loaiza. If questions surround the starting pitching, one thing that\'s never in doubt is the nearly automatic Mariano Rivera. With 38 saves to his credit in the opening days of August, Rivera is once again the Major League leader in saves. With an amazing offense and a solid bullpen, Joe Torre and his Yankees have to be considered favorites to appear in the playoffs for the 43rd time in hopes to bringing their first World Series Trophy home since 2000.

With the addition of Alex Rodriguez in the preseason, the New York Yankees started out the 2004 Major League Baseball season as the topic of most conversations. The American League East seemed like a near lock before the season began, then they struggled to start the year, then built a huge lead over Boston. The huge lead though has dissipated into a mere three and a half games, and the Yankees have took a step down in the eyes of game analysts as the favorite in the American League.

The hitting is there for the team with the second best record in baseball. After a shaky start, A-Rod is showing himself to be a Bronx bomber in the truest of forms. His thirty-two homeruns coming into September tie for fourth in the American League, with teammate and fellow new Yankee Gary Sheffield\'s thirty-three ahead of him in second.

Hitting isn\'t the question for the Yankees though, it\'s the pitching staff. The team lacks the ace starter it may need to make a legitimate run at its first World Series trophy since 2000. The trade for Loaiza hasn\'t worked out as well as hoped, and the team doesn\'t feature a single starter with stats among the league\'s forty best ERA\'s. If questions surround the starting pitching, one thing that\'s never in doubt is the nearly automatic Mariano Rivera. With 48 saves to his credit in the final days of August, Rivera is leading the league in saves.

With the Red Sox building up fast, the Yankees should start looking over their shoulder with a slimmer and slimmer hold on the American League East. Don\'t expect the team to fold up though, with their playoff experience, this is a team built to not just play in October, but to win Major League Baseball\'s championship.

The Yankees step into the postseason with a big question on their minds: how will their pitching perform? Joe Torre, though, is famous for getting his team in shape for October and this year should be no different. Offensively, with Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Gary Sheffield, the Bronx Bombers can put up numbers, especially possessing such an experienced playoff lineup. With the exception of Mariano Rivera, however, New York's pitching has been inconsistent. In a strong American League, the Yankees must draw upon their rotation of Kevin Brown, Javier Vasquez, Mike Mussina and Orlando Hernandez to take this team to another championship.
