The Oakland Athletics are looking to repeat as division champs in 2004. The addition of Mark Redman to the strong arms of Tim Hudosn, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito gives the A’s a tough pitching staff. The offense is led by Eric Chavez and a healthy Jermaine Dye. The team is managed by Ken Macha and has been located in Oakland since 1968. They have made the playoffs 13 times and last won the World Series in 1989. Since 1968, the team has been playing its games in Network Associates Coliseum, which has a capacity of 48,219.

Anyone in doubt of why baseball is our national pasttime should look no further than this weekend's matchup of Oakland and Anaheim. Whoever takes two of three in the series will make the playoffs. The key to the Athletics victory is good nights from their big three starters: Mark Mulder, Barry Zito and Tim Hudson. Victories in these games will not only put the A's in the playoffs, but will give confidence to a team and pitching staff desperately in need of it. Offensively, if Jermaine Dye and Eric Chavez can perform as well, get ready to see Oakland make a stand in October.
