Broncos

The Broncos have been in the league since 1960. Denver has won two Super Bowls out of six appearances in the big game. A return to the glory days of John Elway are in the very near future for the talented Broncos. The team has a good quarterback in Jake Plummer, an ever-solid backfield and a strong defense. Look for the Broncos to be a possible Super Bowl contender this season.

The last game Denver played in was obviously in the office\'s mind this offseason. Peyton Manning and the Colts, en route to the AFC Championship game, shredded the Broncos defense in a rout. The disappointing play of Deltha O\'Neal seemed to seal the Broncos decision to go after a proven Cornerback, and they found him with the biggest trade of the offseason. They shipped 1,500 yard rusher Clinton Portis to Washington for shutdown cornerback Champ Bailey to come in and improve an already strong pass defense (sixth in the NFL last season).

Quarterback Jake Plummer, out of Arizona for the first time in his career, started living up to all the promise he exhibited in his college career, placing among the best Quarterbacks in the league with a QB Rating of 91.2. His receiving crew took a hit with the retirement of Ed McCaffrey, but with a young and energetic group lead by the always intimidating Rod Smith, Mike Shanahan\'s passing game will have the potential to shine.

Replacing Portis won\'t be easy, but the Broncos look to have several men hoping to take the job head-on. Quentin Griffin will be the featured back at the beginning of the season, but look for dependable backups Garrison Hearst, Mike Anderson, and rookie Tatum Bell to step up into that role if needed.

With a Champ in the backfield, Mike Shanahan is convinced this team has what it takes to be champs of the AFC and go to the franchise\'s seventh Super Bowl.

The Broncos seem ready to capture yet another AFC West title with a swarming secondary aided by Champ Bailey and John Lynch. On offense, Jake Plummer has been playing well throwing to targets Rod Smith and Ashley Lelie and RB Quentin Griffin has shown to be a decent replacement for Clinton Portis. If a typically powerful Denver O-line can start making more room for Griffin, Denver looks dangerous. K Jason Elam is still one of the premier kickers in the league even if he has lost a little distance. While the season still is young, look for the Broncos to make a strong stand in their division using solid D and a multi-faceted offense.
