Jaguars

The Jaguars were expansion team in 1995 and have been successful since. They have made four playoff appearances and won two division titles. The cornerstone to the early success was quarterback Mark Brunell. Today, Byron Leftwich is under center for the Jags. With Lefty, this team is capable of making a playoff run. The Jaguars compete in the competitive AFC South. With an injury-free season and some work, the Jaguars could be a solid team in the 2004 season.

Saying the Jaguars have the ability to overcome last season\'s disappointing 5-11 record would be echoing the beliefs of many football experts. The word around the league is that with second year man Byron Leftwich firmly in control of this offense, good things are going to happen. The end of last season showed some promise for Leftwich, but he did have some problems with his decision making. His interception numbers will have to go down as his team will also need more touchdowns from him. Helping him along the way will be veteran wide receiver Jimmy Smith and two big targets in rookies Reggie Williams and Ernest Wilford.
Fred Taylor hasn\'t slowed down, running at full speed along with last season\'s eighth ranked running offense. With additions made to the offensive line, coach Jack Del Rio has made it obvious he plans on playing to the team\'s biggest strength and best player.
The other strength of this team is run defense. They\'ll run on their opponents, but the game plan includes not letting the opposing team run on them. The second best run defense last season also improved, and hopefully with run defense added on the necessary component of a pass rush, because the team had a hard time getting to the quarterback last season.
If Byron Leftwich realizes his potential this early in his career, and the defense can present some kind of pressure on the quarterback, there\'s no way the Jaguars will endure another 5-11 season in 2004.

Using the same formula that won the Ravens a Super Bowl, the Jacksonville Jaguars have started the season undefeated largely in part to their swarming defense. While offensive production has been low, the Jags have made plays when it counted. If QB Byron Leftwich can throw to a talented receiving squad and RB Fred Taylor is given room to run, this will help a team already on the verge of a huge turnaround. Their defense also must keep stepping up in big games, such as in their close victories against Denver and Tennessee. While many are quick to call the Jags a fluke, a win is a win, no matter how it is earned. This will be a team to watch as the season draws on, especially if the offense begins to click.
