Patriots

Since the beginning of the team in 1960, the New England Patriots have won seven division championships, four conference championships and two Super Bowls. Some of the greats to play for the Patriots are Gino Cappallatti, Mike Haynes, John Hannah and Jim Hunt. After winning two Super Bowls in three years, the Patriots are the team to beat this season. QB Tom Brady is one of the best in football. The defense is strong too.

The 2002 Patriots came in after winning the franchise\'s first Super Bowl excited about their potential. Sticking with the team that won the NFL Championship with a last second field goal, the Patriots didn\'t qualify for the playoffs that season. The 2003 season didn\'t start much better, with injuries looking to prevent the Patriots from a respectable season, Bill Belichick played to his strengths. With flawless strategy and defensive depth, the Patriots overcame a shaky start to develop into the best team in football, once more winning the Super Bowl on a last second field goal.
In the same position as the 2002 squad, this Patriots team is avoiding complacency. The biggest complaint with the team was an unreliable running game, so they went out and grabbed disgruntled tailback Corey Dillon from the Bengals. Though held back by injuries and the emergence of Rudi Johnson last year, Dillon will certainly contribute this season and have every chance to develop back into the running back he has been since his first year in the league. His running and the short-passing of Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady are going to be the keys to the offense.
Depth is the most enviable situation with this defense, seventh in the league last season. The 3-4 defense stays that way with a deep line with plenty of potential. The secondary is strong, but contrary to the rest of the defense, is getting old. The crafty Belichick will continue to make the best out of the situation and provide this team with the ability to go deep into the playoffs as this year\'s favorite. One thing this team definitely doesn\'t need is a reminder that going to the playoffs is never a guarantee...

New England plays like a team concerned only with the game ahead of them. While the winning streak is nice, Bill Belichick runs a disciplined team that is ready for another Super Bowl run, especially with the acquisition of RB Corey Dillon. Dillon gives the Pats a viable ground threat to complement Tom Brady's air game. And with Ty Law and Roman Phifer running the defense, it will take a lot for an AFC team to knock down mighty New England. With discipline and a great team chemistry, look for the Patriots to make yet another postseason run.
