There isn’t much to improve on this season in New Orleans. The team is in great condition along with former Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Brooks and Deuce McAllister. The Saints are running a beefed up offense with tight end Ernie Conwell and Deuce McAllister. Safety Tebucky Jones leads the defense. Look for the Saints to be a playoff contender again this year.

New Orleans is always among the most talented teams in the league when the season begins, full of potential for a breakout season. Somehow the potential is seldom ever realized, and that\'s the message behind a very serious team outlook this season. Gone is fun for Coach Haslett\'s team, now it\'s time for business. Game tape studying takes the place of music pouring out of the locker room. A work place mentality is what New Orleans youthful roster comes into this season with, determined to stop the losing that has become seemingly synonomous with the franchise.

Aaron Brooks leads the eighth-ranked passing offense in the league, throwing to strong targets Joe Horn and tight end Ernie Conwell. The team is looking to take a more vertical attack with the passing game to open up the ground attack, because when Brooks is not passing, he\'s handing the ball to one of the best running backs in the league, Deuce McAllister, who has averaged more than 1,500 yards per season as the starter. McAllister is the key to the team, easily the offense\'s best player and someone the team has to rely on if they\'re going to escape their recent mediocrity.

The defense is young and can do little but improve on last season\'s effort, especially at stopping the run. With nagging injuries hopefully taken care of, and former Ram Brian Young signed to anchor the defensive line, last season\'s 8-8 record could be improved upon, but it will go as far as the defense is willing to take them, given how little McAllister and Brooks can realistically improve.

Last season\'s .500 winning percentage was enough for second best in the NFC South, which is suddenly much tougher. If the Saints are to compete, they\'ll do so because of the tremendous Quarterback and Halfback duo, along with improved play of the run defense. The specialty players make this team fun to watch, hopefully it can take that fun and turn it into success, outside of the locker room.

The New Orleans Saints have a talented team in a difficult NFC South. With the loss of RB Deuce McAllister, things have appeared to get a little harder. While QB Aaron Brroks and WR Joe Horn still demand respect from opposing defenses, the loss of McAllister will hurt. Defensively, Ashley Ambrose and Charles Grant are the lone standouts for a D that is third worst in the league. Mike Haslett has found ways before to help his young team win, and must do so again. The Saints may be off to a 2-1 start, but with a close win against St. Louis and San Francisco, this team has a lot to prove to others and themselves before they can think about winning the NFC South.
