Rams
June 11, 2004 at 9:59 am
The Rams started in 1938 in Cleveland. The team moved to Los Angeles. From California, the Rams moved again to their present home in St. Louis. The Gateway City saw the team’s only Super Bowl victory. Greats that have played for the Rams are Jack Youngblood, Jackie Slater, Eric Dickerson and Merlin Olsen. Don’t underestimate the play-making potential of the Rams this season. Mark Bulger leads The Greatest Show on Turf with its sparkling, high-flying, explosive offense. Look for the star-studded Rams to be a favorite in the NFC West and a legitimate contender for the Super Bowl.

They\'ve named the Rams offense the Greatest Show on Turf, and it returned to its glory last season with Marc Bulger leading Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce through another huge passing season. That won\'t change, though hopefully a healthy Marshall Faulk and an improvement in Bulger\'s decision making (he led the league in interceptions last season) can lead to St. Louis once again winning the NFC West.
The defense, though only losing one key part in Grant Wistrom to Seattle, will look different as Lovie Smith left to take a head coaching position in Chicago. Though not statistically great, the Rams defense was a large part of their winning last season. Larry Marmie comes from Arizona with hopes to put together another strong defensive effort to help the Rams offensive efforts not go unnoticed.
The Rams have provided the innovation that is now the driving force behind Kansas City and Chicago\'s offensive systems. The success of Kansas City last year was dependant on Mike Martz bringing the system back into thet league. Martz still believes he has the personnel to allow the Rams to continue calling themselves the greatest show on turf.

The St. Louis Rams have to solve some discipline issues if they want to return as a dominant force in the NFC. While one can't question the strength of their offense, poor timeout use, interceptions by Marc Bulger and not enough carries by Marshall Faulk have been a main cause of their losing record. On the defensive side, the absence of coach Lovie Smith to Chicago has left them at a near standstill, unable to create takeaways and relying on the offense to be able to outscore the other team. If the Rams and Mike Martz can begin to play smart, this is a very scary team. If they continue the way they're going, St. Louis fans may have to wait quite a while to see a playoff game.
