Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have struggled in their short history, with only eight playoff appearances since their inception. But The Bucs were the 2003 Super Bowl Champions under the relentless Jon Gruden. The team is going to be hot this season despite the losses of some of its defense. Derrick Brooks will continue to put up big numbers and heckling opposing offenses. Look for the Buccaneers to be a strong Super Bowl contender this season.

To say that 2003 didn\'t go the way Tampa Bay expected is an understatement. After winning the championship in 2002, the talk was of Tampa Bay proving themselves the best defense in league history. The defense, though fifth in the league, couldn\'t create victory as the Bucs finished the season with a losing record, and their first season out of the playoffs since 1998. Coach Jon Gruden and his former boss, new Bucs GM Bruce Allen will bring out a completely different team in 2004, one with 20 players that played on another team last year.
Brad Johnson does return as the starting quarterback, with Brian Griese there to take the job if he fails. His primary targets will be the returning Keenan McCardell and new number one receiver Joey Galloway. Several former Raiders come to the team, Charlie Garner will start at running back for his old coach. Darrell Russell will be asked to take the place of Warren Sapp on the defensive line, who interestingly went to Russell and Gruden\'s old home in Oakland.
The new look of the Bucs promote one of depth. Taking a page out of the Patriots playbook, the Buccaneers now have several players that can fill in, the Bucks having learned this lesson the hard way from an injury epidemic from last season. Will the new team be able to match the performance of past Buccaneer teams? Watch and find out.

2004 hasn't started the way the Buccaneers would have liked. The latest woe plaguing the team is the loss of RB Charlie Garner for the season. This hurts their already dismal running game and puts more pressure on QB Brad Johnson to perform well. But with an offense that has already struggled, things don't look good for Tampa Bay. Defensively, Simeon Rice and Ronde Barber must find a way to get the defense to adapt to the loss of several players including the irreplaceable Warren Sapp. While the secondary has played well, the D-Line has fallen apart. Jon Gruden knows how hard rebuilding will be, but if he took Tampa Bay to the Super Bowl once, he's confident he can do it again. Whether or not the players believe it will be found out as the season progresses.
