Originating in Boston in 1932, the Redskins moved to Washington in 1937. Since those early days, there have been 20 payoff appearances for this team, along with 12 division championships and 5 league championships. The team’s greatest player was Sammy Baugh. The Redskins hope to return to their glory days by luring Joe Gibbs back to the sidelines. Clinton Portis is also a welcome addition in the back field. The Skins have the horses, see if they can win the race for the Super Bowl.

Washington fans have spent the past several seasons with the bragging point that they are the kings of the offseason, and once again they left no doubters as to who created the most change during the offseason. The biggest change isn\'t personnel on the field, but on the sideline. Three-time Super Bowl winning, Hall of Fame caliber coach Joe Gibbs returns to the team that he led so well before. In a different era of football, he looks to prove himself as once again a master football strategist.
While Gibbs is the top of the mountain of change, it\'s a large mountain in Washington. Mark Brunell is the new starting quarterback after his successful tenure in Jacksonville ended with the promotion of Byron Leftwich last year. The aging lefty hopes to reclaim some magic with the Redskins. He will be handing the ball off to the other big new addition to this team, Clinton Portis. After a brilliant year in Denver, he was traded to the Redskins for Champ Bailey and a draft choice. Many feel that giving Joe Gibbs a 1,500 yard rusher like Portis will provide Gibbs the weapon he needs to run over defenses like the Nascar cars he owned prior to returning to the NFL.
With Champ Bailey out, the Redskins defense turns to Lavar Arrington to be the defense\'s star. Sean Taylor, considered one of the best Safety prospects out of the draft in years, hopes to solidify the secondary to minimize the loss of Bailey.
The Gibbs experiment in Washington could go the way of Steve Spurrier, that\'s certain. Fortunately Gibbs presence in Washington will inspire more patience to any troubles he has. His work here could also lead to success, as Washington certainly has several key parts to a playoff caliber team.

As the Redskins wallow in the bottom of the NFC East early in the season, coach Joe Gibbs must find a way to inspire his offense, helping to put put points on the board and minimizing turnovers. RB Clinton Portis has yet to break out his shell this season and WR Laveranues Coles needs to hold onto the ball to start the offense in the right direction. The defense also is an example of how a team can be good on paper but struggle on the field, which has been typical of the Redskins the past few years. Linebackers LaVar Arrington and Antonio Pierce are integral parts to help improve that D. While this is a team with the talent for the postseason, the Redskins have to first find a way to climb up their division before making any loftier goals.
