Avalanche

April 8, 2004 at 11:42 am
This season, the expectations in Colorado are as high as the Rocky Mountains, and as hard to reach as Pike’s Peak in hockey skates. But if any team is up to the challenge, it’s this Avalanche team. The biggest question in Colorado will be whether the play of goalie David Aebisher can carry the Avs through the postseason as it has throughout the regular season. With the retirement of Patrick Roy, management in Colorado lost more than a gold watch. The Avs lost the goalie that brought two Stanley Cups to the Rockies. Aebisher has played well under the bright lights, notching more than 30 wins. Aebisher and Avs fans everywhere can count on a strong team around the goalie. To put the clamps on opponents, the defense is a mixed bag of familiar names and new faces. Long-time Avs Robert Blake and Adam Foote will provide stops in aid of Aebisher. The team also added Karlis Skraslins from Nashville and signed Jean-Michael Liles from Michigan State University to bolster the defensive force. The Avs are lead on offense by Joe Sakic, Alex Tanguay, Peter Forsberg and Milan Hejduk. Former-Ranger Matthew Barnaby and former-Coyote Chris Gralton are new additions that will add points on the Avs’ attack. Prior to the season, Colorado also nabbed Main Mallard Paul Kariya from Anaheim and Teemu Selanne from San Jose to help the offense. The team is ready. The goalie is proven in the regular season. Let the climb to the Cup begin.
