Devils
April 8, 2004 at 11:45 am
The Devils cruised through last season\\\'s playoffs. New Jersey ousted the Mighty Ducks in seven games to capture the Stanley Cup for the third time since 1995. The franchise is slowly developing into a legitimate dynasty, and another Cup this year would clinch it for them. Martin Brodeur reigns as the best goaltender in the NHL with the retirement of Patrick Roy. The Devil goalie returns from a season in which he won the Vezina Trophy and posted the best numbers of his career. Up front, the Devils have a fairly balanced attack with the resurgent Jeff Friesen, Patrick Elias, Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez. Look for Game 7 hero Mike Rupp to see playing time in place of the departed Joe Nieuwendyk. And don\\\'t forget that John Madden and Sergei Brylin are a threat on both ends of the ice on the penalty kill. New Jersey also returns a rock-solid blue line corps of Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer, Colin White, and Brian Rafalski back. Now that Burns has finally won a Cup, could he push the Devils to repeat? We shall see.

The Devils cruised through last season’s playoffs. New Jersey ousted the Mighty Ducks in seven games to capture the Stanley Cup for the third time since 1995. The franchise is slowly developing into a legitimate dynasty, and another Cup this year would clinch it for them. But New Jersey has had a devil of a time moving toward that next Cup. Entering the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Devils are playing the unfamiliar role of underdog. Thankfully, New Jersey has goalie Martin Brodeur. Brodeur reigns as the best goaltender in the NHL with the retirement of Patrick Roy. Last season, the Devil goalie won the Vezina Trophy and posted the best numbers of his career. Brodeur can definitely right the ship. Up front, the Devils have a fairly balanced attack with the resurgent Jeff Friesen, Patrick Elias, Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez. Don’t forget that John Madden and Sergei Brylin are a threat on both ends of the ice on the penalty kill. New Jersey also boasts a rock-solid blue line corps of Scott Niedermayer, Colin White, and Brian Rafalski back. Will the Devils torture teams on their way to another cup? We shall see.
